FRS Healthy Energy Chews, Orange, 30-Count Bag Review

First off, I put about as much stock in sports science trials attempting to prove or disprove a product as I do the contents of any sports supplement's non-FDA regulated or tested nutrition information. There are too many factors for me to ever be happy with the representative sample of humans tested anyways. A spin on Disraeli's famous quote - there are three types of lies: lies, damned lies and sports supplements. Initially I went into GNC looking for some type of energy gel or chew. Not having heard of these I decided it was worth the investment to try them out. If after 30 chews I couldn't find a reason to continue buying them then I wouldn't. I don't find them as convenient as energy gels as far as what they are for energy boosts while running. I eat them before running, typically before stretching and can feel the minimal caffeine content (20mg per two chews) within moments. The thing that I love about these is the type of energy they deliver, or, more accurately, help to felicitate the delivery of, and its sustainability. They won't give you some big boost that's gone in 10-20 mins. The energy is almost subtle. As far as what I've read they are supposed to excite the body into producing and tapping into its own energy store, which is healthy, natural sustainable energy with no jitters and no crash. I have found that they work for me, that what they claim to do happens to actually work with my body chemistry.
In addition to using them for exercise i find that they really do help me to concentrate, which is a HUGE deal for me. I'm a college student with ADD who struggles to focus in class and out, and cannot afford health care for an Adderol Rx.. Once I learned when to administer these to work best with my schedule they proved to be a large boon to my ability to focus in class. I can honestly compare it to a mild dose of Adderol (adult Ritilin) without the cost or other negative effects. This may be a very rare case, but it is nonetheless, A case. If you're curious about FRS chews then just buy a pouch and see if they work for you. Your body chemistry is very unique and may be more susceptible than the other, negative reviewers to this product's contents. Four stars for the crappy sugars and extraneous chemicals they use, which I can see absolutely no reason for. C'mon we're adults, we don't need a teaspoon of sugar to make the medicine go down. I'd rather a bad flavor than bad sugars and carbs. Oh well, I'll continue to buy them.

| A DIFFERENT KIND OF ENERGY FRS's revolutionary blend of nutrients extends your body's natural energy, fueling you up when you need it while supporting your health over the long haul. There's no jittery feeling or roller-coaster ride - just prolonged energy that helps keep you focused and fully charged. That energy comes from our secret weapon, quercetin, an antioxidant found in foods like blueberries, apples and grapes. Its incredible ability to enhance your body's energy system is what keeps you feeling energized longer. Add a host of essential vitamins and you're ready to tackle anything from minor workouts to a major marathon. A single 11.5-ounce serving of FRS contains a healthy amount of quercetin, but one you'd have a hard time getting on your own; that is, unless you have a tendency to eat 40 apples in a single sitting. | HOW TO USE FRS HEALTHY ENERGY For best results, take 2-3 servings per day. One in the morning, one in the afternoon and whenever you need extra energy. Athletes take 30 minutes before exercise. | |
| THE SCIENCE OF QUERCETIN Endurance and VO2max Study: Davis, Carlstedt et al. 2009 An independent, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, cross-over study showed that when 12 healthy, active (but not highly trained) men and women consumed 500 mg of quercetin (QU995™) in an enriched drink mix twice daily for 7 days, they experienced a 13.2 % increase in endurance and a 3.9 % increase in VO2max (a typical measure of fitness). The study has been published online in the International Journal of Sports Nutrition and Exercise Metabolism.

Immune System Study: Neiman, David, Henson, DA, et al. 2007 A clinical study, funded in part by the United States Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) showed the antioxidant quercetin significantly reduced incidence of upper respiratory tract illness during the two week period following intensified exercise. Researchers also reported enhanced alertness and reaction time in athletes taking the quercetin supplement during high stress. Forty test subjects were subjected to extreme physical stress during a five week period. Half were given 1,000 mg of quercetin daily (the approximate amount in 3 servings of FRS) and half were given a placebo. Results showed:
| | Work Performance Study: Durak, E. and Bell, M. May 2005 During a six-week study, university employees were asked to perform their daily jobs, which required physical exertion, lifting, repetitive movements and attention to detail. At the end of the study, subjects experienced improvements in various measures of work performance, as measured in a Work Productivity Assessment Index survey.
